Decca Records
- 1941年、潜水艦の音を聞き分ける目的として、ffrr(Full Frequency Range Recording)という当時としては画期的な高音質録音方式を開発した。
Turn Over 250, Roll Off -6

23391 Lover Man (Oh, Where Can You Be?)
Lyrics & Music : Jimmy Davis & Ram Ramirez & James Sherman
4th, October 1944
72404-A
I don’t know why but I’m feeling so sad
I long to try something I’ve never had
Never had no kissin’
Oh, what I’ve been missin’
Lover man, oh, where can you be?
The night is cold and I’m so all alone
I’d give my soul just to call you my own
Got a moon above me
But no one to love me
Lover man, oh, where can you be?
I’ve heard it said
That the thrill of romance
Can be like a heavenly dream
I go to bed with a prayer
That you’ll make love to me
Strange as it seems
Someday we’ll meet
And you’ll dry all my tears
Then whisper sweet
Little things in my ears
Hugging and a-kissing
Oh, what we’ve been missing
Lover man, oh, where can you be?
I’ve heard it said
That the thrill of romance
Can be like a heavenly dream
I go to bed with a prayer
That you’ll make love to me
Strange as it seems
Someday we’ll meet
And you’ll dry all my tears
Then whisper sweet
Little things in my ears
Hugging and a-kissing
Oh, what we’ve been missing
Lover man
Where can you be?
「You Are My Sunshine」

23391 That Old Devil Called Love
Allan Roberts & Doris Fisher
8th, November 1944
72497-A
It’s that old devil called love again
Gets behind me and keeps giving me the shove again
Putting rain in my eyes, tears in my dreams
And rocks in my heart
It’s that sly old son of a gun again
He keeps telling me that I’m the lucky one again
But I still have that rain still have those tears
And those rocks in my heart
Suppose I didn’t stay ran away wouldn’t play
That devil – what a potion he would brew
He’d follow me around build me up, tear me down
Till I’d be so bewildered I wouldn’t know what to do
Might as well give up the fight again
I know darn well he’ll convince me that he’s right again
When he sings that siren song I just gotta tag along
With that old devil called love
He’d follow me around build me up, tear me down
Till I’d be so bewildered I wouldn’t know what to do
Might as well give up the fight again
I know darn well he’ll convince me that he’s right again
When he sings that siren song I just gotta tag along
With that old devil called love
With that old devil called love

DA23463 Big Stuff
lyrics & music by Leonard Bernstein
13th, March 1946
W73440-A
So you cry
What’s it about, baby?
You ask why
The blues had to go and pick you
So you go
Down to the shore kid’s stuff
Don’t you know
There’s honey in the store for you big stuff
Let’s take a ride in my gravy train
The doors open wide
Come in from out of the rain
So you stare
Call it despair baby
Don’t you care
I’m on the square about you
Let’s have a try
It maybe that you’re my guy
(very short bridge)
Let’s take a ride in my gravy train
The doors open wide
Come in from out of the rain
So you stare
Call it despair baby
Don’t you care
I’m on the square about you
Let’s have a try
It maybe that you’re my guy

You ain’t gonna bother me no more
Nohow
Love goes just so far
No more
Woke up this morning and found
I didn’t care for you no more
Nohow
Never felt so good before
You’re down to my size
It’s over and done
So honey step down from your throne
That look in your eyes
Don’t bother me none
Can take you or leave you alone
From my window
Skies ain’t gray no more
Not now
Here’s the day
That I’ve been waiting for
Got only one heart
One heart with no spares
Must save it for loving
Somebody who cares
So you ain’t gonna bother me
No more
No more

You better go now
Because I like you much too much
You have a way with you
You ought to know now
Just why I like you very much
The night was gay with you
There’s the moon above
And it gives my heart a lot of swing
In your eyes there’s love
And the way I feel it must be spring
I want you so now
You have lips I love to touch
You better go now
You better go because I like you much too much
There’s the moon above
And it gives my heart a lot of swing
In your eyes there’s love
And the way I feel it must be spring
I want you so now
You have lips I love to touch

Lyrics & Music : Cole Porter
14th, August 1945
W73009-A
What is this thing called love?
This funny thing called love
Just who can solve its mystery
Why should it make a fool of me
I saw you there one wonderful day
You took my heart and threw it away
That’s why I ask the Lord in heaven above
What is this thing called love?
(bridge)
I saw you there one wonderful day
You took my heart and threw it away
That’s why I ask the Lord in heaven above
What is this thing called love?
Billie

23565 Don’t Explain
Billie Holiday & Arthur Herzog Jr.
14th, August 1945
W73006-A
Hush now, don’t explain
Just say you’ll remain
I’m glad you’re back
Don’t explain
Quiet, don’t explain
What is there to gain
Skip that lipstick
Don’t explain
You know that I love you
And what love endures
All my thoughts are of you
For I’m so completely yours
Cry to hear folks chatter
And I know you cheat
Right or wrong, don’t matter
When you’re with me, sweet
Hush now, don’t explain
You’re my joy and pain
My life’s yours, love
Don’t explain
You know that I love you
And what love endures
Nothing rates above you
For I’m so completely yours
Cry to hear folks chatter
And I know you cheat
Right or wrong, don’t matter
When you’re with me, sweet
Hush now, don’t explain
You’re my joy and pain
My life’s yours, love
Don’t explain

Lyrics and Music by
Ervin Drake & Dan Fisher & Irene Higginbotham
22nd, January 1946
W73300-A
Good morning heartache
You old gloomy sight
Good morning heartache
Thought we said goodbye last night
I turned and tossed until it seems you have gone
But here you are with the dawn
Wish I forget you but you’re here to stay
It seems I met you
When my love went away
Now everyday I start by saying to you
Good morning heartache what’s new?
Stop haunting me now
Can’t shake you nohow
Just leave me alone
I’ve got those Monday blues
Straight through Sunday blues
Good morning heartache here we go again
Good morning heartache
You’re the one
Who knew me when
Might as well get used to you hanging around
Good morning heartache
Sit down
(bridge)
Stop haunting me now
Can’t shake you nohow
Just leave me alone
I’ve got those Monday blues
Straight through Sunday blues
Good morning heartache
Here we go again
Good morning heartache
You’re the one
Who knew me when
Might as well get use to you hanging around
Good morning heartache
Sit down

No good man
Lovin’ all the no good plan
Never treats me as he should
That ain’t good
He’s always bringing me down
He’s no saint
Heaven knows that’s what he ain’t
Spends his money foolishly
Not on me
I’m the one who gets the run-around
I ought to hate him and yet I love him so
For I require
Love that’s made of fire
And in his arms I find
I always get that kind
No good man
Ever since the world began
There’s been other fools like me
Born to be
In love with a no good man
I ought to hate him and yet I love him so
For I require
Love that’s made of fire
And in his arms I find
I always get that kind
No good man

There is no greater love
Than what I feel for you
No greater love no heart so true
There is no greater thrill
Than what you bring to me
No sweeter song
Than what you sing to me
You’re the sweetest thing
I have ever known
And to think that you are mine alone
There is no greater love
In all the world it’s true
No greater love

In my solitude you haunt me
With reveries of days gone by
In my solitude you taunt me
With memories that never die
I sit in my chair
I’m filled with despair
There’s no one could be so sad
With gloom everywhere
I sit and I stare
I know that I’ll soon go mad
In my solitude
I’m praying
Dear Lord above
Send back my love
(Very small bridge)
I sit in my chair
Filled with despair
There’s no one could be so sad

I sit and I stare
I know that I’ll soon go mad
In my solitude

Morton Krouse
9th, April 1946
W73497-A
Had my lunch all alone
Waited for you to phone
Said you’d call me at two
So about twenty of three
I had cocktails with Lee
Baby, I don’t cry over you
Stood me up in the rain
Tried to hurt me again
Bet you thought I’d be blue
I went out to a show
With a swell guy named Joe
Baby, I don’t cry over you
These foolish games you keep playing
Might work with somebody else
But I could have told you
Right from the start
No man is man enough
To break my heart
If you don’t come tonight
Think you’ll give me a fright
Tell you what I will do
I’ll put on my best gown
And go painting this town
Baby, I don’t cry over you
(bridge)
These foolish games you keep playing
Might work with somebody else
But I could have told you
Right from the start

To break my heart
If you don’t come tonight
Think you’ll give me a fright
Tell you what I will do

Will be out with some Bill
Maybe I don’t cry over you

Lyrics : Leo Robin
Music : Ralph Rainger
13th, February 1947
W73794-A
Living for you is easy living
It’s easy to live when you’re in love
And I’m so in love
There is nothing in life but you
I’ll never regret the things I’m giving
They’re easy to give when you’re in love
I’m happy to do whatever I do for you
For you maybe I’m a fool
But it’s fun
People say you rule me with one
Wave of your hand
Darling it’s grand
They just don’t understand
Living for you is easy living
It’s easy to live when you’re in love
And I’m so in love
There’s nothing in life but you
For you maybe I’m a fool
But it’s fun
People say you rule me with one
Wave of your hand
Baby it’s grand
They just don’t understand
Living for you is easy living
It’s easy to live when you’re in love
And I’m so in love

Lonely grief is hounding me
Like the lonely shadow hounding me
It’s always there just out of sight
Like a frightening dream on a lightening night
Lonely wind cries out my name
Sad as haunted music in the rain
It’s born of grief and born of woe
But I hear it call and I’ve got to go
Where can I be headed for
The blues call in my north
To lick my heart once more
Love lives in a lonely land
Where there’s no helping hand to understand
Why does it bring this hag to me
Why it don’t matter why
I only know misery has to be part of me
Never hope to count on love
To be a partner of that heaven up above
Never hope to understand
Love is a bare land
A lonely land
A lonely land

I’m just about fed up
I’ve finally had my fill
Of sitting ‘round and crying in my beer
I’ve drunk the bitter cup
I’ve downed the bitter pill
While waiting for the silver lining to appear
I’m going to stack my blues up
On the very highest shelf
I’m going to pack my blues up
And get wise to myself
(Weep no more, my baby)
(Weep no more, my baby)
Weep no more
I’m going to weep no more
I’m putting an end to this lonesome game
(It’s such a lonesome game this crying)
Cry no tears,
I’m going to cry no tears
Each time that I happen to hear his name
(I hear his name)
I’m going out on the town
This hopeless torch I will drown
‘Cause I’m tired of running around
(Running around)
With just a memory
Weep no more,
I’m going to weep no more
‘Til somebody weeps
(Until somebody weeps)
For me
(I’m going to stack my blues up on the very highest shell)

Weep no more,
I’m going to weep no more
‘Til somebody weeps

Made to share their joys
Made to help and guide them
With ever a patient hand
Made to give affection
In the right direction
(Always understand)
Now boys may think they take care of girls
Just because they pass on their fashions and their curls
But I’ve always found
It’s just the other way around
(Other way around)
If you need the girl
And declare you do
(Tell her that you need her)
She’ll be therel
To take care of you
(She’ll be there)
(Now boys may think they take care of girls,
Just because they’re clever with their fashions and their curls)
But I’ve always found
It’s just the other way around
(And if you need the girl)
And declare you do
She’ll be there
(She’ll be there)
To take care of you
(You)

French lyrics : Albert Willemetz & Jacques Charles
English lyrics : Channing Pollock
Music : Maurice Yvain
10th, December 1948

(verse)
It’s cost me a lot
But there’s one thing
That I’ve got
It’s my man
It’s my man
Cold and wet
Tired you bet
All of this I’ll soon forget
With my man
He’s not much on looks
He’s no hero out of books
But I love him
Yes, I love him
Two or three
Girls has he
That he likes as well as me
But I love him
I don’t know why I should
He isn’t true
He beats me too
What can I do?
(refrain)
Oh my man I love him so
He’ll never know
All my life is just despair
But I don’t care
When he takes me in his arms
The world is bright
All right
What’s the difference if I say
I’ll go away
When I know I’ll come back on
My knees someday
For whatever my man is
I’m his
Forever more

Lyric : Ira Gershwin & DuBose Heyward
Music : George Gershwin
10th, December 1948
W74652-A
I love you Porgy
Don’t let him take me
Don’t let him handle me
And drive me mad
If you can keep me
I want to stay
With you forever
And I’ll be glad
I love you Porgy
Don’t let him take me
Don’t let him handle me
With his hot hands
If you can keep me
I want to stay here
With you forever
I’ve got my man
Someday I know he’s coming
Back to call me
He’s gonna handle me and
Hold me so
It’s going to be like dying, Porgy
When he calls me
But when he comes, I know
I’ll have to go
I love you Porgy
Don’t let him take me
Don’t let him handle me
And drive me mad
If you can keep me
I want to stay here
With you forever
I’ve got my man
I love you / I want toと崩さずゆっくりと情感たっぷりに唄っている。

There ain’t nothing I can do
Or nothing I can say
That folks don’t criticize me
But I’m going to do
Just as I want to anyway
And don’t care just what people say
If I should take a notion
To jump into the ocean
Ain’t nobody’s business if I do
If I go to church on Sunday
Then cabaret all day Monday
Ain’t nobody’s business if I do
If my man ain’t got no money
And I say take all mine honey
Ain’t nobody’s business if I do
If I give him my last nickel
And it leaves me in a pickle
Ain’t nobody’s business if I do
Well I’d rather my man would hit me
Than follow him to jump up and quit me
Ain’t nobody’s business if I do
I swear I won’t call no copper
If I’m beat up by my Papa
Ain’t nobody’s business if I do
Nobody’s business
Ain’t nobody’s business
Nobody’s business if I do

Well good morning baby
Welcome back to town
How do fine Papa
Welcome back to town
You’re doing so much traveling
Never know when you’ll be around
You’re a fine and mellow fellow
But you’re stubborn as a mule
You love me like an angel
But you treat me like a fool
Two-faced Daddy
Don’t hand me no double-cross
You’ll see any time I’m ready
I can tell you baby get lost
You’re cheating on the outside
Doing anything you choose
You better come back on the inside
‘Cause you got too much to lose
Don’t want no trouble
I’ve got to be the boss
And if you can’t play it my way
Well now baby get lost
I try to stop your cheating
But I just don’t have the time
’Cause I got so many men that
They’re standing right in line
Keep cool Papa
You got to come across
’Cause any time I’m ready
Yes any time I’m ready
You know when I’m ready
I can tell you baby get lost
Why don’t you get lost

(Billie Holiday)
Don’t lose your head
Then lose your guy
You can’t lose a broken heart
If you ever break up
Then try to make up
It’s tough to make a brand new start
Take a walk
Think it over
While strolling ‘neath the moon
Don’t say things in December
You’ll regret in June
Ware your remark
Before you speak
Or you may be sorry soon
Don’t be erratic
Be diplomatic
To keep your heart’s in tune
Cruel harsh words
Often spoken
Will upset your applecart
So don’t lose your head
Then lose your guy
‘Cause you can’t lose a broken heart
(Louis Armstrong)
Look, don’t lose your head
Then lose your gal
You can’t lose a broken heart, baby
If you ever break up
Then try to make up
It’s tough to make a brand new start
Take a walk
Think it over
While strolling beneath the moon
Don’t say things in December
Hmm, baby, you’ll regret too soon
Ware your remark
Before you speak
Or you may be sorry soon, baby
Don’t be erratic
Be diplomatic
To keep your heart’s in tune, baby
Cruel harsh words
Often spoken
Will upset your applecart, baby
So don’t lose your head
Then lose your girl
‘Cause you can’t lose a broken heart
(Billie and Armstrong together)

James P. Johnson & Flournoy E. Miller
30th, September 1949
W75343-A
Billie sings, (Armstrong comments)
You don’t act up too much
Ain’t got that glamour touch
You’re trifling lazy
Ain’t worth a cigarette ash
(Look out there mamma, look out there
You carry me too fast, watch it baby)
You’re just my good for nothin’
My sweet hunk o’ trash
(My, my how you sound)
You’re very short on looks
(Here, here, here)
Dumb when it comes to books
(Look out, baby, watch it, honey)
And you stay full of corn
Just like a succotash
(What you want me to do
in my idle moments?)
You’re just a good-for-nothing
But my sweet hunk o’ trash
(Let me get a word in there honey, you running your mouth)
Armstrong sings, (Billie comments)
You said I’ve worried you for years
I’m just a barfly mooching’ beers
While you sweat over a hot stove slinging hash
(Work my fingers right down to the elbows)
Yes I may be good-for-nothing
But I’m still your sweet hunk o’ trash
(First to admit it baby)
You said I spread my love all around
And with the chicks all over town
But, how can I when you keep me broke
So I can’t spend no cash
Yes I may be good-for-nothing
But I’m still your sweet hunk o’ trash
Billie sings, (Armstrong comments)
Listen hear Pops,
You know you lie about your youth
(I don’t lie baby, I’m just careless with the truth, that’s all)
How careless can you be
(Oh, no)
With all young chicks
You try to make a flash
(No baby, it ain’t like that, no)
But you’re still my good-for-nothin’
My sweet hunk o’ trash
(laughs)
Now when you stay out very late
It sure makes me mad to wait
(FXXX come, baby?)
‘Cause, you come home too tired
To raise just one eyelash
(Watch it baby, watch it)
You’re just good-for-nothing
But you’re my sweet hunk o’ trash
(Yes indeed!)

‘Cause you’re my thrill
You’re my thrill
How my pulse increases
I just go to pieces
When I look at you
‘Cause you’re my thrill
Hmmm, nothing seems to matter
Hmmm, here’s my heart on a silver platter
Where’s my will
Why this strange desire
That keeps mounting higher
When I look at you
I can’t keep still
You’re my thrill

If he wants them out of the way
Crazy he calls me
Sure I’m crazy
Crazy in love I’d say
I say I’ll go through fire
And I’ll go through fire
As he wants it so it will be
Crazy he calls me
Sure I’m crazy
Crazy in love you see
Like the wind that shakes the bough
He moves me with a smile
The difficult I’ll do right now
The impossible will take a little while
I say I’ll care forever
And I mean forever
If I have to hold up the sky
Crazy he calls me
Sure I’m crazy
Crazy in love am I
Like the wind that shakes the bough
He moves me with a smile
The difficult I’ll do right now

Up in Harlem every Saturday night
Where the highbrows get together
It’s just too right
They all congregate and all night hop
And what they do is Ooh boppa da
Old Hanna Brown from way across town
Gets full of corn and starts
Bringing them down
And at the break of day
You can hear old Hanna say
Gimme me a pig foot and a bottle of beer
Send me a gate I don’t care
I feel just like I want to clown
Give the piano player a drink
Because he’s bringing me down
He’s got rhythm yeah, when he stomps his feet
He sends me right off to sleep
Cheek all your razors and your guns
We’re gonna be arrested when the wagon comes
Gimme a pig foot and a bottle of beer
Send me cause I don’t care
I want a pig foot and a bottle of gin
Send me Daddy move right in
I feel just like I want to shout
Give the piano player a drink
Because he’s knocking me out
He’s got rhythm when he stomps his feet
He moves me right off to sleep
Check all your razors and your guns
Do the Hucklebuck until the rising sun
Gimme a pig foot and a bottle of gin
Move me, ‘cause I’m in my sin
Gimme a pig foot and a bottle of beer

(Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that’s got his own)
Them that’s got shall get
Them that’s not shall lose
So the Bible said and it still is news
Mama may have Papa may have
But God bless the child that’s got his own
That’s got his own
Yes the strong gets more
While the weak ones fade
Empty pockets don’t ever make the grade
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that’s got his own
That’s got his own
Money you’ve got lots of friends
Crowding round the door
When you’re gone and spending ends
They don’t come no more
Rich relations give
Crust of bread and such
You can help yourself
But don’t take too much
Mama may have Papa may have
But God bless the child that’s got his own
That’s got his own

When I hear them say
There’s better living
Let them go their way
To that new living
I won’t ever stray
’Cause this is heaven to me

I want to seek it if it’s yes or no
(If it’s yes or no)
It’s me who’ll speak it
‘Cause the lord, he knows
That this is heaven to me
If you’ve got your hands
And got your feet
To plow your land
And cut your wheat
You raise your head
When night is done
Shout your thanks up to the sun
So when I hear them say

There’s better living
Let them go their way

One dark and stormy night
Big John was feeling blue
Ain’t he didn’t seem right
So he didn’t know just what to do
I said do please tell me
Ain’t you satisfied
He looked around so pitiful
And to me he replied
Keeps on raining
Look how it’s raining
Daddy he can’t make no time
Wind keeps blowing
Cold wind’s blowing
Soon I’ll find
In the winter time
When it starts to snow
I know Billie
You’ve got to have some dough
Keeps on raining
Look how it’s raining
Daddy he can’t make no time
(bridge)
Ain’t the rain just beautiful
Some people say
But I’d rather see it
In a fine movie play

Look how it’s raining

I fell in love with you the first time I looked into
Them there eyes
You have a certain little cute way of flirting with
Them there eyes
They make me feel so happy
They make me feel so blue
I’m falling
No stalling
In a great big way for you
My heart is jumpin
‘
You started something with
Them there eyes
You better look out little brown eyes if you’re wise
They sparkle
They bubble
They gonna get you in a whole lot of trouble
Ah, baby
Them there eyes

I fell in love with you the first time I looked into
You have a certain little cute way of flirting
They make me feel so happy
They make me feel so blue

When the moon’s kind of dreamy
Starry eyed and dreamy
And nights are luscious and long
If you’re kind of lonely
And all by your only
Then nothin’ but the blues are brewin’
The blues are brewin’
When the wind through the willow
Blows across your pillow
And tells you sleepin’ is wrong
If love goes a thirsting
Till you feel like bursting
Then nothing but the blues are brewin’
The blues are brewin’
Suppose you want somebody
But you ain’t got nobody
You only get a gleam in your eyes
Till somebody’s found you
And puts their lovin’ arms around you
You got the feelin’ you want to die
But when the
Lord up above you
Sends someone to love you
The blues are something you loose
You’re so busy doing
The things that you’re doing
That love ain’t got no time
For brewin’ the blues
(bridge)
But when the
Lord up above you
Sends someone to love you

Don’t come quacking like a duck
Do your duty

When I need attention at home
I’ll call you on the phone
Come yourself
Don’t send your friend Jones

If my radiator gets too hot
Cool it off in a lot of spots
Give me all the service you’ve got
Do your duty
If you don’t know what it’s all about
Don’t sit around my house and pout
If you do you’ll catch your Mama tipping now
Do your duty
If you make your own bed hard
That’s the way (?)

I’m not trying to make you feel blue
I’m not satisfied with the way you do
