89002 These Foolish Things

画像の説明s_Clef89002A(1)

Lyrics : Eric Maschwitz
Music : Jack Strachey & Harry Link & Holt Marvell
26th, March 1952
YBC769-3

A cigarette that bears a lipstick’s traces
An airline ticket to romantic places
And still my heart has wings
These foolish things remind me of you

A tinkling piano in the next apartment
Those stumbling words
That told you what my heart meant
A fairground’s painted swings
These foolish things remind me of you.

You came you saw
You conquered me
When you did that to me
I knew somehow this had to be

The winds of March
That make my heart a dancer
A telephone that rings
But who’s to answer
Oh, how the ghost of you clings
These foolish things remind me of you

How strange, how sweet
To find you still
These things are dear to me
They seem to bring you near to me
The scent of smoldering leaves
The wail of steamers
Two lovers on the street
Who walk like dreamers
Oh, how the ghost of you clings
These foolish things
Remind me of you

画像の説明画像の説明

Lyrics : Al Dubin
Music : Harry Warren
26th, March 1952
YBC770-3

Are the stars out tonight?
I don’t know if it’s cloudy or bright
‘Cause I only have eyes for you
The moon may be high
Maybe millions of people go by
But I only have eyes for you

I don’t know if we’re in a garden
Or on a crowded avenue
You are here so am I
Maybe millions of people go by
But they all disappear from view
And I only have eyes for you

(bridge)

I don’t know if we’re in a garden
Or on a crowded avenue
You are here so am I
Maybe millions of people go by
But they all disappear from view
And I only get eyes
Big bulging eyes
Great big eyes
For you

89003 You Turned The Tables On Me

画像の説明

Louis Alter & Sidney D. Mitchell
26th, March 1952
YBC767-5

You turned the tables on me
And now I’m falling for you
You turned the tables on me
I can’t believe that it’s true
I always thought when you brought
The lovely present you bought
Why hadn’t you brought me more
But now if you’d come
I’d welcome anything
From the five and ten cent store

You used to call me the top
You put me up on a throne
You let me fall with a drop
And now I’m out on my own
But after thinking it over and over
I got what was coming to me
Just like the sting of a bee
You turned the tables on me

画像の説明

Lyrics and music by Cole Porter
26th, March 1952

You’d be so easy to love
So easy to idolize
All others above
So worth the yearning for
So swell to keep every home fire burning for
We’d be so grand at the game
So carefree together
That it does seem a shame
That you can’t see
Your future with me
‘Cause you’d be oh
So easy to love

Blue moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue moon
You knew just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for

And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will ever hold
I heard somebody whisper – please adore me
And when I looked
The moon had turned to gold

Blue moon
Now I’m no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

89004 You Go To My Head

画像の説明

Lyrics : Haven Gillespie
Music : J. Fred Coots
26th, March 1952
YBC764-3

You go to my head
And you linger like a haunting refrain
And I find you spinning round in my brain
Like the bubbles in a glass of champagne

You go to my head
Like a sip of sparkling Burgundy brew
And I find the very mention of you
Like the kicker in a julep or two

The thrill of the thought
That you might give a thought
To my plea
Casts a spell over me
But I say to myself
Get ahold of yourself
Can’t you see that it never can be

You go to my head with a smile
That makes my temperature rise
Like a summer with a thousand Julys
You intoxicate my soul with your eyes

And I’m certain that this heart of mine
Hasn’t a ghost of a chance
In this crazy romance
You go to my head
You go to my head

East of the sun and west of the moon
We’ll build a dream house of love, dear
Near to the sun in the day
Near to the moon at night
We’ll live in a lovely way, dear
Living our love in the pale moonlight
Just you and I forever and a day
Love will not die we’ll keep it that way
Up among the stars we’ll find
A harmony of life too lovely tune
East of the sun and west of the moon, dear
East of the sun and west of the moon

26th, March 1952

In my solitude you haunt me
With reveries of days gone by
In my solitude you taunt me
With memories that never die

I sit in my chair
Filled with despair
There’s no one could be so sad
With gloom everywhere
I sit and I stare
I know that I’ll soon go mad

In my solitude
I’m praying
Dear Lord above
Send back my love

I sit in my chair
Filled with despair
There’s no one could be so sad
With gloom everywhere
I sit and I stare
I know that I’ll soon go mad

In my solitude
I’m praying
Dear Lord above
Send me back my love

89037 Lover Come Back To Me

画像の説明画像の説明

Lyrics : Oscar Hammerstein II
Music : Sigmund Romberg
27th, July 1952
YBC840-4

The sky was blue
And high above
The moon was new
And so was love
This eager heart of mine was singing
Lover where can you be
You came at last
Love had its day
That day is past
You’ve gone away
This aching heart of mine is singing
Lover come back to me

When I remember every little thing
You used to do
I’m so lonely
Every road I walk along
I walk along with you
No wonder I am lonely
The sky is blue
The night is cold
The moon is new
Love is old
While I’m waiting here
This heart of mine is singing
Lover come back to me

(bridge)

When I remember every little thing
You used to do
I grow lonely
Every road I walk along
I walk along with you
No wonder I am lonely
The sky is blue
The night is cold
The moon is new
But love is old
While I’m waiting here
This heart of mine is singing
Lover,
Come back to me

Glad am I

画像の説明

Lyrics : Jack Lawrence
Music : Walter Gross
April 1952
YBC787-3

The evening breeze
Caressed the trees,
Tenderly
The trembling trees
Embraced the breeze
Tenderly
Then you and I
Came wandering by
And lost in a sigh
Were we

The shore was kissed
By sea and mist
Tenderly
I can’t forget
How two hearts met
Breathlessly
Your arms opened wide
And closed me inside
You took my lips
You took my love
So tenderly

Then you and I
Came wandering by
And lost in a sigh
Were we

The shore was kissed
By sea and mist
Tenderly
I can’t forget
How two hearts met
Breathlessly
Your arms opened wide
And closed me inside
You took my lips
You took my love
So tenderly

画像の説明

Lyrics : Ted Koehler
Music : Harold Arlen
27th, July 1952
YBC841-1

Don’t know why
There’s no sun up in the sky
Stormy weather
Since my man and I ain’t together
Keeps raining all the time
Life is bare
Gloom and misery everywhere
Stormy weather
Just can’t get my poor self together
I’m weary all the time,
The time
So weary all the time

When he went away
The blues walked in and met me
If he stays away
Old rocking chair will get me
All I do is pray
The Lord above will let me
Walk in the sun once more

Can’t go on
Everything I had is gone
Stormy weather
Since my man and I ain’t together
Keeps raining all the time
Keeps raining all the time

When he went away
The blues walked in and met me
If he stays away
Old rocking chair will get me
All I do is pray
The Lord above will let me
Walk in the sun once more

Can’t go on
Everything I had is gone
Stormy weather
Since my man and I ain’t together
Keeps raining all the time
Keeps raining all the time

画像の説明

French lyrics : Albert Willemetz & Jacques Charles
English lyrics : Channing Pollock
Music : Maurice Yvain
27th, July 1952
YBC839-2

(verse )

It’s cost me a lot
But there’s one thing that I’ve got
It’s my man
It’s my man

Cold and wet
Tired you bet
All of this I’ll soon forget
With my man

He’s not much on looks
He’s no hero out of books
But I love him
Yes, I love him

Two or three girls
Has he
That he likes as well as me
But I love him

I don’t know why I should
He isn’t true
He beats me too
What can I do?

(refrain)

Oh my man I love him so
He’ll never know
All my life is just despair
But I don’t care
When he takes me in his arms
The world is bright
All right

What’s the difference if I say
I’ll go away
When I know I’ll come back
On my knees someday

For whatever my man is
I’m his
Forever more

89089 He’s Funny That Way

画像の説明

Lyrics : Richard A. Whiting &
Music : Neil Moret
27th, July 1952
YBC843-1

Once he dressed in tweeds and drapes
Owned a Rolls Royce car
Now he seems quite out of place
Like a fallen star
While I worry plan and scheme
Over what to do
Can’t help feeling it’s a dream
It’s just too good to be true

I’m not much to look at
I’m nothing to see
I’m glad I’m living
And I’m lucky to be
But I’ve got a man
Crazy for me
He’s funny that way

I ain’t got a dollar
Can’t save a cent
He doesn’t holler
He’d live in a tent
I’ve got that man
Mad about me
He’s funny that way

Though he loves to work and slave
For me every day
He’d be so much better off
If I went away

But why should I leave him
Why should I go
He’d be unhappy
Without me I know
I’ve got that man
Crazy for me
He’s funny that way

画像の説明

Lyrics and music by Irving Berlin
April 1952
YBC789-3

(Verse)
One little kiss, a moment of bliss, then hours of deep regret
One little smile, and after a while, a longing to forget
One little heartache left as a token
One little plaything carelessly broken

(refrain)
Remember the night
The night you said -
I love you
Remember?
Remember you vowed
By all the stars
above you
Remember?

(bridge)

Remember the night
The night you said -
I love you
Remember?
Remember you vowed
By all the stars
above you
Remember?

Remember we found a lonely spot
And after I learned to care a lot
You promised that you’d forget me not
But you forgot
To remember

Breeze
Stop moaning’ those weird melodies
My man has left me and I can’t face the music
Without singing’ the blues
Rain
Your rhythm on my window pane
Drives me insane because I can’t face the music
Without singing’ the blues
My heart is so broken
I’ve spoken
To the Lord for sympathy
And if He don’t help me
So help me
It’s the bottom of the deep blue sea
For me
I’m gonna end this misery
My man has left me and I can’t face the music
Without singing the blues
My heart is so broken
I’ve spoken
To the Lord for sympathy
And if He don’t help me

89108 If The Moon Turns Green

画像の説明

Paul Coates & Bernie Hanighen
April 1952
YBC788-2

If the moon turns green
And shadows get up and walk around
Clouds come tumbling to the ground
I wouldn’t be surprised
As didn’t you fall in love with me
If the stars turn blue
And willows that weep began to sing
Winter changes into spring
I wouldn’t raise my eyes
‘Cause didn’t you fall in love with me
I thought I was foolish to think of romance
With someone as charming as you
I thought I was hoping without any chance
Then every hope came true
If the moon turns green
And rivers began to flow upstream
This is all a crazy dream
I wouldn’t be surprised
Anything can happen
If you can fall in love with me
I thought I was foolish to think of romance
With someone as charming as you
I thought I was hoping without any chance
Then every hope came true
If the moon turns green

89108 Autumn In New York

画像の説明

Vernon Duke
April 1952
YBC790-7

Autumn in New York
Why does it seem so inviting?
Autumn in New York
It spells the thrill of first-nighting
Glittering crowds and shimmering clouds
In canyons of steel
They’re making me feel
I’m home

It’s autumn in New York
That brings the promise of new love
Autumn in New York
Is often mingled with pain
Dreamers with empty hands
May sigh for exotic lands
It’s autumn in New York
It’s good to live it again

Autumn in New York
The gleaming rooftops at sundown
Autumn in New York
It lifts you up when you’re rundown
Jaded roués and gay divorcés
Who lunch at the Ritz
Will tell you that
“It’s divine !”

This autumn in New York
Transforms the slums into Mayfair
Autumn in New York
You’ll need no castle in Spain
Lovers that bless the dark
On benches in Central Park
Greet Autumn in New York
It’s good to live it again

  • 1934年のレヴュー「Thumbs up」に使用された。
    New Yorkの秋の素晴らしさをうたった素敵な曲。
    roués[ru:eiz]は仏語で放蕩者。Mayfairはロンドンの高級住宅地。

How much do I love you?
I’ll tell you no lie
How deep is the ocean
How high is the sky?
How many times a day
Do I think of you?
How many roses
Are sprinkled with dew?

How far would I travel
To be where you are?
How far is the journey
From here to a star?
And if I ever lost you
How much would I cry?
How deep is the ocean
How high is the sky?

89132 What A Little Moonlight Can Do

Lyrics and music by Harry Woods
14th, April 1954
YBC1568-1

Ooh,
What a little moonlight can do
Ooh, ooh, ooh
What a little moonlight can do to you
You’re in love
Your heart’s fluttering all day long
You only stutter cause your poor tongue
Just will not utter the words
I love you

Ooh, ooh, ooh
What a little moonlight can do
Wait a while
Till a little moonbeam comes peeping through
You’ll get bold
You can’t resist him
All you’ll say
When you have kissed him is
Ooh, ooh
What a little moonlight can do

(bridge)

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
What a little moonlight can do
Ooh, ooh, ooh
What a little moonlight can do to you
You’re in love
Your heart’s fluttering all day long
You only stutter cause your poor tongue
Just will not utter the words
I love you

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
What a little moonlight can do
Wait a while
Till a little moonbeam comes peeping through
You’ll get bold
You can’t resist him
All you’ll say
When you have kissed him is
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
What a little moonlight can do

89141 Willow Weep For Me

Lyrics and music by Ann Ronell

(Billie chatting)

Willow weep for me,
Willow weep for me
Bend your branches down
Along the ground and cover me
Listen to my plea
Hear me willow and
Weep for me
Gone my lovely dreams
Lovely summer dreams
Gone and left me here
To weep my tears along the stream
Sad as I can be
Hear me willow and
Weep for me
Whisper to the wind
And say that love has sinned
To leave my heart a sign
And crying alone
Murmur to the night
And hide her starry light
So none will find me sighing
Crying all alone
Weeping willow tree
Weep in sympathy
Bend your branches down
Along the ground and cover me
Listen to me plea
Hear me willow and
Weep for me
Whisper to the wind
And say that love has sinned
To leave my heart a sign
And crying alone
Murmur to the night
And hide her starry light
So none will find me sighing
Crying all alone
Weeping willow tree
Weep in sympathy
Bend your branches down
Along the ground and cover me
Listen to my plea
Hear me willow and
Weep for me
Willow
Willow
Weep for me

89141 Stormy Blues

Billie Holiday

YBC1938-3

I’ve been down so long
That down don’t worry me
I’ve been down so long
Down don’t worry me
I just sit and wonder
Where can my good man be
When it rains in here
It’s storming on the sea
When it rains in here
It’s storming on the sea
Every time I come here
Everything happens to me
I lose my man
I lose my head
I lose my money
Feel like I’m almost dead
I need you honey
Need you bad as can be
I’ve been down so long
That down don’t worry me

89150 I Thought About You

画像の説明

Lyrics : Johnny Mercer
Music : Jimmy Van Heusen
3rd, September 1954
YBC1935-3

I took a trip on a train
And I thought about you
I passed a shadowy lane
And I thought about you
Two or three cars
Parked under the stars
A winding stream
Moon shining down on
Some little town and
With each beam
Same old dream
And every stop that we made
Oh, I thought about you
But when I pulled down the shade
Then I really got blue
I peeked through the crack
And looked at the track
The one going back to you
And what did I do
I thought about you
Thought about you
Thought about you

89150 Love Me Or Leave Me

画像の説明

Lyrics : Gus Kahn
Music : Walter Donaldson
3rd, September 1954
YBC1930-2

Love me or leave me
Or let me be lonely
You won’t believe me I love you only
I’d rather be lonely
Then happy with somebody else
You might find the night time
The right time for kissing
But night time is my time
For reminiscing
Regrettin’ instead of forgetting
With somebody else
There’ll be no one
Unless that someone is you
I intend to be independently blue
I want your love
But I don’t want to borrow
To have it today to give back tomorrow
Your love is my love
There’s no love for nobody else
Love me or leave me
Or let me be lonely
You won’t believe me I love you only
I’d rather be lonely
Then happy with somebody else
You might find the night time
The right time for kissing
But night time is my time
For reminiscing
Regrettin’ instead of forgetting
With somebody else
There’ll be no one
Unless that someone is you
I intend to be independently blue
I want your love
But I don’t want to borrow
To have it today to give back tomorrow
Your love is my love
There’s no love for nobody else
